19 of Medvedev's twenty-one titles have been earned on hard surfaces

A comeback Daniil Medvedev won his initial title for nearly 30 months with success over Frenchman Moutet in the competition title decider.

The athlete, a ex- number one, has had a difficult period, achieving just a single victory at the Grand Slams and undergoing a meltdown at the American major.

His inconsistency on the professional circuit - and difficulties with his serve in specific - led to him dropping out of the world's top 10 and finally separating with long-time trainer Cervara.

Now training with Thomas Johansson and Rohan Goetzke, the tennis star has consistently progressed in the recent weeks - peaking in a tightly fought competitive victory over Frenchman Moutet.

This represents his initial trophy after the 2023 Rome Masters and maiden on a hard surface since spring of the previous year.

Victory also means the Russian has won 21 victories at twenty-one distinct tournaments.

"For the first time I'm at a event with my children together, so to win a championship is particularly special," said tennis professional the champion.

"This victory is in tribute of my younger daughter her name, because the maiden victory I won when my first daughter my daughter was born was for her."

The tennis star, the 2021 US Open champion, had failed in his past six championship matches, including in Halle earlier this year.

His counter-punching play style and frequent emotional displays on court had caused some to doubt if his ability to perform at the highest level was concluded.

However the athlete has made changes in the last few weeks, making an effort to come to the net and compete aggressively, backed up by an improved serving game.

The champion came back from a break down in the first set against the tricky Moutet, taking four of the last five exchanges to go ahead.

The pair traded break points in the middle set before Moutet, bidding for his initial ATP Tour victory, gained dominance to force a decider.

He rescued four early-game break points in a tight final set before the champion broke to that score to serve for the match.

Appropriately, Medvedev clinched victory with a shot at the net, with the Frenchman incapable to control a volley after a lengthy match.
